Geomechanics theory is a discipline founded by the renowned Chinese geologist J.S.Lee (Mr. Li Siguang), which applies principles of mechanics to study the structure and movement laws of the earth's crust, as well as their causes. Geomechanics plays a significant role in the fields of mineral and hydrogeology, engineering geology, seismic geology, geothermal geology, and crustal stability research. Particularly in the prediction of petroleum, coal, and various metal deposits in China, as well as in addressing geological issues encountered in major engineering construction and large-scale mining development, geomechanics theory has played a crucial role.
Journal of Geomechanics is a bimonthly academic journal supervised by China Geological Survey and sponsored by the Institute of Geomechanics, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences. It was founded in 1995, and its predecessor was the Geomechanics Series founded by J.S.Lee (LI Siguang, who is the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, geologist) in 1959. With the mission of “carrying forward J.S.Lee’s academic thoughts; seeking truth, innovation and development”, Journal of Geomechanics aims to display and spread the scientific research achievements in geomechanics. It mainly reports the frontier trends and basic theoretical research findings in crustal movement, continental geological structure and its dynamic mechanism, etc. The journal also includes applied scientific research achievements in mineral resources exploration, geological disaster investigation and prevention, environmental change patterns, etc.
The journal has been selected as Chinese Core Journal, the Key Magazine of China Technology, Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD) Source Journal, and it has been indexed in a number of international and domestic journal databases, such as Scopus, DOAJ, Georef, PA, CA, JST, EBSCO Database, etc.
Since 2017, Journal of Geomechanics has been changed to bimonthly publication. Its publishing time is the 28th of even-numbered months, and its printed version and online version are issued simultaneously.
The columns of Journal of Geomechanics mainly includeTectonic System & Structural Geology, Crustal Stress & Tectonic Stress Field,Energy Resources Geology, Ore Field Structure & Mineralization, Geo-hazards & Engineering Geology, Quaternary &Environmental Geology, Active Tectonics & Earthquake, General Geology and Regional Geology.
