Abstract:
Field geological mapping as well as 2-D seismic profiling reveal that southward thrust of long displacement existed in Late Cretaceous and Paleogene respectively in Shuanghu region, central Tibetan Plateau. Late Cretaceous southward thrust formed huge nappe of the Bilogco-Andarco Paleo-petroliferous System (BAPS) overlying Upper Cretaceous the Abushan Fm. with root in the Dirangbico-South Yaqu Thrust (DST). The minimal displacement of BAPS-DST is 116km, corresponding to crustal shortening more than 54% in Late Cretaceous. The Paleogene southward thrust occurred in north of DST formed Dawoco-Tuco Thrust (DTT) in Northern Qiangtang Depression. The minimal displacement of DTT is 38km, corresponding to crustal shortening more than 53%. Both DST-BAPS and DTT are thin-skin thrust, and thick gypsum layers in the Middle-Lower Jurassic Formations play favorable role of detachment for long displacement thrust. Foreland basins and Molasse formations of Abushan and Kangtuo Fms. formed along thrust frontiers of BAPS-DST and DTT in Late Cretaceous and Paleogene, respectively. Long displacement thrust in Shuanghu area is key for accumulation and preservation of oil and gas in central Qiangtang Basin.
