Acoustic Emission stress determination method was applied at Taiyuan, Shanxi, for the water-diversion project and the results obtained are given in the paper.A comparison of the results with that by hydrofracturing shows a good agreement of the measurements. The maximum principal stress estimated by AE at a depth of 500m is 26.7MPa.
